Oriflamme Sponsors New Student Reunion

Last night, familiar faces reunited for last night’s 1999 New Student Reunion sponsored by Oriflamme.

“The reunion is a new idea. A lot of people say we just do stuff the first week of school. Now that half the semester is over, we’re checking up on the students,” said Oriflamme president Llewelyn Rao.

Food and music were provided for all those who attended the event, held in the lower level student commons area of the Busch Memorial Center.

“[Freshmen, transfer students, and group leaders] can reunite with people they met the first week and catch up on how they’re doing,” added vice president Meredith Saner.

Oriflamme group leader Fred Bendana said, “It’s a great opportunity to see how the freshman have adapted and get reacquainted with them.”

Despite the low attendance early in the evening, group leader Meredith Brown said, “I feel positive that some of my group members will show up.”

The evening brought back memories of Oriflamme Week ’99, a week designed to help first-year students adjust to college life, providing them with various activities and opportunities to socialize among fellow peers.

Ruth Rauls explained her favorite activity from the week. “I liked the day that we had free time, and my group went to Planet Hollywood,” Rauls said. “Everyone let their guard down and really got to know each other.”

Freshman Tim Kneier talked about one of the benefits of Oriflamme’s efforts to encourage student participation in school events.

“Oriflamme introduced me to lots of new people,” Kneier said. “This was a great idea.”

Fellow freshman Mark Reinsch agreed.

“It was nice to see some of the first people I met at SLU,” Reinsch said.
