Midwest acts set to descend at Fubar

Local music aficionados can get a taste of two bands on the rise this weekend. 301 Broadway, a St. Louis-based rock group, and Blackjack Rover, a Chicago-based group, will be playing at Fubar Sept. 12, starting at 4 p.m. The Music Greenhouse, a production and promotion company for up-and-coming bands based out of Minneapolis, is organizing the event.

Two exchange students are shaking things up at Saint Louis Univerity. Through the Visiting Student Program, Kurdish Iraqi students come to study music and English at SLU each year. Marc Thayer, the Vice President of Education and Community Partnerships at the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra, works in partnership with SLU for the program.

Powell adds culture to neighborhood

The Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis is hosting an opening night for its new exhibition on Friday, Sept.11. The new exhibit, For the blind man in the dark room looking for the black cat that isn't there, running until Jan. 3, is a show made up of works by 20 different artists from all around the world, including Dave Hullfish Bailey, Sarah Crowner, Ayse Erkman and more.

Japan comes to St. Louis

The Missouri Botanical Garden is welcoming a St. Louis tradition this weekend. "We've been hosting the Japanese festival for over 30 years," Karen Hagenow, Public Information Officer for the Missouri Botanical Gardens, said. "It really has kind of taken on what it's been known as ever since our Japanese garden was built and dedicated in 1977.
