Parks Senior Questions “Hate Crime”

Frank Semmelmayer November 30, 2006
To the Editor: I am deeply distressed by the coverage of the Busch Student Center-Rainbow Alliance incident. I'll not bother recapping the events, of which, no doubt, all of your readers are aware. I will, however, comment on a few of the journalistic practices of the paper and do my best to attempt to leave my personal opinions out of this.

Former Employee Says Price is Right

Michael Kurtz November 30, 2006
To the Editor: Your recent editorial "If the Price is Right," printed on Nov. 9, 2006 begs the question: Is anyone surprised? The answer is, of course not. Students, faculty and staff have known for a long time that Saint Louis University is operated more toward the model of a Fortune 500 corporation than a Jesuit institution of higher education.

Student Urges War Coverage

Chris Bauer November 30, 2006
To the Editor: In recent months, it seems that there has been much less exposure in the newspapers about the war on terrorism. I can only guess that this is due to the monotonous, dreary aspect of writing another article that covers the war. I feel that this needs to change.

Rainbow Alliance President Speaks Out

defaultuser November 16, 2006
To the Editor: I write to you as president of the Rainbow Alliance and as an undergraduate social work student, in response to the hate crime involving the Rainbow Alliance one month ago, as well as the article and the editorial printed about it in the Nov...

defaultuser November 16, 2006

To the Editor: As a member of the GLBTQA (gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, questioning, ally) community, I was both saddened and outraged to hear that a professor verbally harassed members of the...

The Significance of the Vagina Monologues

Jessica Matistic Academic Ser November 16, 2006
This university and others around the world have a new group of young men and women attending every year and many of these young women will fall victim to violence while in college. Young students may not fully understand what is normal or dysfunctional in a relationship.

Rainbow Alliance Harassment

Kenneth Haller M.D. November 16, 2006
To the Editor: Re the recent stories and editorials in The University News concerning the harassment of Rainbow Alliance students at the Busch Center in October, much has been made of the length of time it took for the Alliance students to respond to and to seek redress for this incident.

Provost Pleas for Civil Discourse

defaultuser November 9, 2006
To the Editor: While I strongly disagree with most of the allegations made by Andrew Ivers in his Nov. 2 letter to the editor, my purpose in writing this letter is to object to the specific form Mr. Ivers' allegations take and, in turn, to issue a plea for civil discourse.

Administrators Respond to Stipend Letter

defaultuser November 9, 2006
To the Editor: We are writing to respond to a letter written by Andrew Ivers in your November 2, 2006 issue. We take exception to the self-serving nature of the letter. We are disappointed that The University News has chosen to publish a letter that is filled with errors of fact and looks at the issue from such a narrow perspective.

Alum Advocates Music

defaultuser November 9, 2006
To the Editor: I am a returning student to Saint Louis University, and I am surprised and dismayed that there is any talk of diminishing the music program at my alma mater. I was blessed to have the opportunity of playing tenor saxophone in a jazz combo section under the instruction of Dr.

KSLU applauds coverage

defaultuser November 9, 2006
To the Editor: I just wanted to commend you on the stories you ran in last week's paper, particularly the study abroad and scholarship story and Andrew Ivers letter to the editor. My friends and I have long been frustrated with these issues on SLU's campus but never saw anyone take any action.

Former Editor weighs in on student stipends, administration

Diana L. Benanti November 2, 2006
Members of the Board: I wish to bring to your attention a serious problem that has developed between administrators and student leaders at Saint Louis University. For 35 years, SLU has recognized the importance of compensating the leaders of major student organizations for their work.
