Some Cardinals Fans Left Ticketless, Disappointed

Sarah Kuehnle April 20, 2006
I was one of the countless Cardinals fans who flocked to the Busch Student Center on Tuesday to buy tickets for the upcoming SLU night at the baseball game. Knowing that the tickets went on sale at 10:00 a.m., I arrived about 15 minutes early.

Fr. Heithaus embodied Jesuit ideals

Michael Heithaus April 20, 2006
As a great-nephew of Fr. Claude Heithaus, I was delighted to see The University News' recent?articles reflecting?on?Fr. Heithaus's?efforts to desegregate Saint Louis University in the mid-1940s. Often remembered for his contributions?as being the driving force behind the early desegregation of Saint Louis University, Fr.

An open letter to Darfur

Danielle Mackey April 20, 2006
I'm sorry. I'm sorry that I was completely unaware of your horror until recently. I'm sorry that your children use crayons to draw the rape of their mothers and the beheaded bodies of their fathers. I'm sorry that I couldn't tear my queasy eyes from those pictures-silent stick figures screaming of the suffering of 6-year-olds.

Protestors are Important

Marshall Johnson April 12, 2006
I don't want to start ranting or anything, but a few weeks ago I read a "very intelligent" letter to the editor that said, "What's the deal with protestors," and "What's wrong with Democrats?" The entire letter was a poorly worded rant that was in so many ways one of the worst pieces of political rhetoric I have ever seen.

Relay for Life Expresses Thanks to Its Supporters

Tyler Robertson and Torie Bruc April 12, 2006
On behalf of the American Cancer Society and the Relay For Life steering committee, we would like to thank the entire Saint Louis University community for helping to make the third annual Relay For Life of SLU such an amazing success! This event would not have been possible without our participants, team captains, speakers, performers, volunteers and advisors, as well as the faculty and staff of Saint Louis University and the entire SLU community! Unfortunately, cancer is word that is heard too often.

Socialism Gives Government Unearned Trust

Sean MacLennan April 12, 2006
I am not writing to argue with the socialist club existence on behalf of the Church: Gene did a much better job than someone with my writing talents could. ?I am writing to object to your politics.? According to Wikipedia, socialism is "a social and economic system (or the political philosophy advocating such a system) in which the economic means of production are owned and controlled collectively by the people.

Photos Should Reflect All Art of the Human Body

Diana Oleskevich April 12, 2006
I am an alum who came on campus this week.? In reading the March 30 issue, I noted that you printed a photo of the fully nude woman bather, but did not choose to print the fully nude male Pheidippidies.? It seems that printing the photo of a woman's genitals is OK, but not the male penis photo.

In Defense of Being Active

Chris Pingel April 6, 2006
I must apologize on behalf of Mr. Andrew Baworowsky if he in any way implied that his views are those of an informed representative of the right.? As a conservative, I am worried that some of the claims in his letter last week will be wrongfully attributed to conservatism, rather than rightly assigned solely to the letter's author.

Anne Coulter at Debate Discourages Real Dialogue

[email protected] April 6, 2006
We are writing to express our disappointment with the Great Issues Committee for choosing Anne Coulter to debate with Donna Brazile. For those who choose to ignore the senseless rhetoric of pseudo-politicians like Coulter, here is a brief synopsis of her intolerant views: Coulter has said more than once that women should not be allowed to vote (the fact that her explanation for this was that it would ensure Republican victory hardly mitigates the statement).

Recycling Is Ineffective

Bob Blaskiewicz April 6, 2006
While I appreciate the sentiment behind Emily O'Keefe's March 29 letter to The University News, I wonder how people have critically interrogated the accepted thinking about recycling's perceived benefits. ?Certainly, humans should leave as small a footprint on nature as possible, but, despite the claims of both well-meaning and self-interested environmentalists, recycling does nothing to reduce energy use or keep our environment clean.

Too Much Preaching, Not Enough Practicing

Andrew Bawarowsky March 30, 2006
I don't want to go on a rant, but what's with Democrats these days? Everyone to the left has gotten jumped up in the last few weeks, both at SLU and nationally. Frankly, all this publicity over nothing is annoying. You guys need to grow up and let some things pass.

Support Campus Recycling Program

[email protected] March 30, 2006
While I would be the first to agree that the recycling program at SLU could use some improvement, I would like to shed some light on some questions raised by Ms. Schwarz's letter last week:?While only plastics 1 and 2, aluminum and steel cans are collected in the dorm and apartment recycling bins, cardboard recycling dumpsters can be found behind Griesedieck, Fusz, Reinert and DeMattias halls and on the Laclede side of the BSC.
