Lew Griffith March 7, 2008
In the early morning of March 1, the Colombian military carried out a raid against members of the terrorist group Fuerzas Armadas Revolu-cionarias de Colombia (FARC), or the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia. The attack occurred 1.1 miles inside Ecuador's border, without official permission or knowledge.

Sub-prime borrowers venture into the heart of economic recession

George Caputa February 29, 2008
I know it may be hard to believe, but it used to be quite difficult to get a credit card. You used to have to apply. There were no pre-approved notices in the mail. Credit card companies' points of view before 2006 was that you shouldn't give someone a credit card if there were a possibility that he, or she, couldn't pay his, or her, bill.

The student body has selected next year's Student Government Association executives: president, Samantha Howard; executive vice president, Alex Joyce; financial vice president, Jonathan Perdue; academic vice president, Samantha Morr; and administrative vice president, Michael Harriss.

Apathy as a pitiful legacy

Editorial Board February 29, 2008
For the second consecutive year, a single ticket swept the Student Government Association elections. On Monday, more than 2,000 Saint Louis University students voted online for next year's Senate and executive board. When the polls closed, all five executive members of the "Voice for Progress" ticket had secured front-row seats for next year's SGA meetings.

Government-elect greets students

Sam Howard Alex Joyce Jonath February 29, 2008
SLU Community Members, First-thank you for your support in last week's SGA elections! Second-there is often a sharp disconnect between SGA and the students we're supposed to be representing. We genuinely want that to start changing next year. We are going to begin discussing goals for next year before the school year culminates, and we want to be sure that the goals we set for ourselves are priorities for YOU.

Student supports smoking ban

Michelle Hasan February 29, 2008
Words cannot justify how overjoyed I was to learn that the smoking referendum was passed in this week's election. To have 63 percent of the voting population agree that smoking outdoors should be limited to designated areas is a substantial fact, which proves that the student body truly knows what will benefit the Saint Louis University community as a whole.

Parent requests ride board

defaultuser February 29, 2008
As a parent of a current freshman, I am frustrated that there seems to be no apparent means for students to connect with other students who need rides to and from different locations. My suggestion therefore is to create this for all students at SLU to use.

Stagnation, inflation, speculation and the upside of a market downturn

R.H. Popli February 29, 2008
Significant drops in the New York Stock Exchange have led many people to believe that the U.S. economy is about to enter a recession. And, with the almighty dollar on the line, college students' great endeavors of purchasing PlayStation 3s by the truckload may be offset.

Point: The economy

Andrew Pollock February 29, 2008
The $168 bilion economic stimulus package recently passed through Congress and approved by President George W. Bush will provide many Americans with a certain measure of relief, as the nation faces a recession this year. Approximately 137 million Americans will receive tax rebates shortly after the April 15 deadline.

Counterpoint: The economy

NICOLE PUHL February 29, 2008
Have you ever tried putting out a forest fire with a garden hose? If you're semi-logical, you haven't. Yet this, in essence, is what Congress is attempting with its economic stimulus package, which will provide $600 tax rebates for individuals, $1,200 rebates for couples and $300 rebates for veterans.
