“This achievement enables us to attract excellent faculty and physicians-in-training to our School of Medicine. This will enrich our student body and the faculty who teaches them,” said Patricia Monteleone, M.D., dean of the School of Medicine. “In addition, a ranking in the U.S. News & World Report attracts more patients to our clinical practice, providing a wealth of clinical material from which our students and residents can learn.”
For the 2001 edition of “America’s Best Hospitals,” U.S. News & World Report looked at 1,878 hospitals across the nation. To qualify for ranking, a hospital had to meet at least one of three standards: It had to be a member of the Council of Teaching Hospitals, be affiliated with a medical school, or provide at least nine out of 17 prescribed technological services. SLU Hospital met all of these standards.
