Schaefer, Clark, Fenneberg, Adams assume new roles

During the less hectic summer months, administrators in student
development decided to shuffle positions within their division. The
changes opened three positions and created one new position–all of
which have all been filled.

Bernie Schaefer stepped down as director of the Center for
Leadership and Community Service, taking on a different position
within the University community. Schaefer is now the director of
Development in the School of Social Service and College of Public
Service. He will be working with the two colleges in fund-raising
for their continued goals of serving the community.

Schaefer plans on researching ways to help the College of Public
Service support their Paul C. Reinert, S.J. Clinics for Family and
Child Development. The clinics work with children in communication
disorders, the early childhood center and counseling/support
services.

“It is always a challenge learning a new job. This is another
opportunity for me to support the outreach of the community,” said
Schaefer.

Schaefer sees the biggest change in his new job being that he
will not be working directly with the students as he has
before.

“I will miss that,” Schaefer said.

Schaefer’s departure from CLCS opened doors for someone else to
step up and take over the position. David Clark, former Assistant
Director of Student Life, felt that it was time for him to do
something different at the University. As Assistant Director, Clark
mainly worked in the summer and fall orientation and multi-cultural
programs along with overseeing the diversity groups on campus. As
the new director of CLCS, Clark foresees his biggest challenge as
continuing in the footsteps of Schaefer’s and the legacy he
left.

Clark plans to continue the commitment of service to the
community by expanding on the past and forming new aspects of
service throughout the community. Clark is also looking forward to
being a co-advisor for Alpha Phi Omega, Saint Louis University’s
coed service fraternity.

Due to Clark’s movement from Student Life to CLCS, his former
position was divided, creating another position within the
department. The new position, Director of the Cross Cultural
Center, will be filled by Greg Horton. Horton currently works in
the department of fine and performing arts. In addition to advising
the multicultural groups, he will continue his work within the
department.

Leanna Fenneberg, former area coordinator of Griesedieck, filled
the Assistant Director’s position. Fenneberg now oversees SLU101,
Welcome Week and University 101 programs. She is excited in general
about working with first year students and helping them transition
to college and be successful students. Fenneberg would like to see
Oriflamme, Resident Advisors and Involvement Mentors work together,
as each group works towards the same common goal of welcoming
students and their families to SLU.

“I loved working in Res Life. This position (in Student Life) is
a new perspective and a new way to work with students,” said
Fenneberg.

Stephanie Adams filled the Residence Life Coordinator-First Year
Experience position. Adams comes to SLU from Elon University in
North Carolina as the former Assistant Director of Residence Life.
She plans on continuing and building on the success of the First
Year experience program by establishing intentional community
building with all FYE floor communities. Adams will be overseeing
the Griesedieck Complex, Notre Dame Hall and Marguerite Hall.
