SLU Cinema’s fall lineup has something for everyone. With many of the summer’s hottest blockbuster hits mixed in with some old favorites, the weekly theatrical screening event promises everything from action and adventure to comedy and cartoons, aiming to please all who choose to take part in the weekly endeavor..
The series of weekly movies began this past Wednesday with Shrek the Third in the quad, which was able to achieved a successful turnout.
For the rest of the fall semester, movies will typically be shown every Wednesday at 9 p.m. in Salsarita’s Billiken Club, with only a few exceptions. The Student Activities Board, in collaboration with the Busch Student Center, department of housing and resident life and department of student life, sponsors SLU Cinema. SAB’s appointed movie committee is in charge of choosing each movie.
“The committee selects movies that we think the student body would enjoy. Also, we try to vary the movies from newly released films that haven’t come out on video to some older favorites,” said the movie chairperson, Kristen Percich.
After the movies are selected, Campus Ministry must first approve them before their viewing in the Billiken Club.
Each week the movies offer a way for students to take a night off from studying and homework to relax and watch a movie with friends.
“I think that the movies every week are a great way to hang out with friends and take a break from my hectic schedule and homework,” said sophomore Mayra Ortiz, when asked how she feels about SLU Cinema.
SAB has said that they are in the business of entertaining the student body, and with this season’s choosen movie lineup, they aim to do just that.
