SGA 2016-2017 Executive Board Candidates

SGA+2016-2017+Executive+Board+Candidates

The SGA election – for both the senate and executive board – will be Monday, Feb. 29.

All bios were written by the candidates.

Grant Mayfield – VP, Academic Affairs

Grant Mayfield is a sophomore from Overland Park, Kansas, studying Communication and Political Science. He is currently abroad in Rome, but last semester, Mayfield served as a senator for the College of Arts and Sciences. He also served as a senator for first-year students and has been involved in various senate committees, including Academic Affairs, Internal Affairs and the Diversity and Leadership Cabinet. As Vice President for Academic Affairs, Grant hopes to represet the student voice during discussions on core curriculum reform, changes to the advising process and student representation on hiring committees for deans and administrators.

Jay Hardin – VP, Internal Affairs

Jay Hardin is a sophomore from Dyersburg, Tennessee, studying Health Management. He currently serves as a senator for the Residence Hall Association. Hardin believes that this experience has provided him with a deeper understanding of how to represent his peers and be a servant leader. Outside of SGA, he is a University Ambassador, the Vice President of Beta Theta Pi and an Oriflamme team leader. As Vice President for Internal Affairs, Jay hopes to empower senators to build meaningful relationships with their constituents and ignite a passion in fellow SLUdents to get involved in SGA.

Amanda Pekau – VP, Diversity and Inclusion

Amanda Pekau is a junior from the southwest suburbs of Chicago, studying nursing. She was formerly the Vice President of Active Minds, as well as a member of Alpha Phi Omega. Her current passions include promoting intersectional feminism as a core team member of Una, The Feminist Voice at SLU, and by volunteering at SSM Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital in the Transistional Care Unit. As Vice President of Diversity and Inclusion, she looks forward to bringing her devation to people and social justice to the SLU community, so that it might become an even more wonderful, welcoming campus.

Kevin Lynch – President

Kevin Lynch is a junior from St. Louis studying English and Communication. He served as a first-year senator in SGA during his freshman year and as a senator for the College of Arts and Sciences during his sophomore year. Currently, Lynch serves as the Vice President of Academic Affairs on SGA’s executive board, where he has spent the year working to reform the university’s academic advising system, advocating for core curriculum reform and pushing for stronger student representation in administrative conversations. Outside of SGA, Lynch is an active member of Oriflamme and is an employee in the Student Success Center, where he works with students as a writing consultant. With his strong experience working with both university administrators and SLU students, Kevin is honored to be running for president.

Devon McDaniel – VP, Student Organizations

Devon McDaniel is a junior from Washington, Illinois, studying Spanish and English. She currently serves as president for the Student Activities Board, as well as Treasurer for the Women’s Club Soccer Team. As a resident advisor, McDaniel calls the Griesedieck Complex “home.” She is also involved in pep band, SLU’s improv group, League of Laughter, and Sigma Delta Pi, the Spanish Honor Society. McDaniel believes that her experience with these diverse organizations on SLU’s campus uniquely qualify her to be Vice President for Student Organizations. As VP for Student Organizations, Devon hopes to bridge the gap between student organizations and SGA for the university to grow and prosper for the benefit of both present and future Billikens.

Esther Chinwuko – VP, International Affairs

Esther Chinwuko is a freshman studying Electrical Engineering. She was born and raised in Tokyo and moved to the United States four years ago with her family. Esther currently serves as a senator for international students and is a member of the Learning Community Advisory Board, the Annual Giving Program and the International Affairs senate committee. As Vice President for International Affairs, she looks forward to creating positive change to make SLU a better place for all students.

Ismar Sehovic – VP, Finance

Ismar Sehovic is a sophomore from south Saint Louis County studying Finance and Statistics. He was born in Germany and immigrated to the United States in 2000. He currently serves as a senator for commuter students and is involved in various business and religious student organizations on campus. As Vice President for Finance, Sehovic hopes to foster communication and transparency between students and SGA. In his free time, Sehovic enjoys playing soccer and baseball and spending time outdoors.
