The women’s tennis squad opened its fall season with an impressive outing at the SIUE Fall Invitational Sep. 7-8.

The Bills posted a 14-4 overall record for singles matches and a 5-2 record in doubles. Leading the way in the singles matches were juniors Alana Bourgeois and Mariluz Rojo, who each posted 3-0 records. The pair also recorded a 2-0 doubles record to leave them undefeated over the weekend.

Junior Cassie McKenzie, senior Ally McKenzie, junior Ariana Rodriguez and senior Alba Salinas each had strong showings in their respective flights, and ended the weekend with 2-1 singles records.

“We competed very well as a whole against tough competition,” said junior Cassie McKenzie when asked about her teammates performances. “we by far had the best spirit.”

“We all have been working very hard on staying consistent for the past couple weeks, and to see everyone implement it during our matches is something we really needed,” MacKenzie said. The girls will be back on the courts on Friday, as they will be looking for another strong performance in the Bradley Invitational.
