SLU A Cappella kicked off their fall season with a showcase, courtesy of Six Eight A Cappella and the Student Involvement Center. In hopes to recruit new voices, four of the five groups showed off their ac-abilities with breathtaking performances.

Although the Bare Naked Statues, SLU’s all-male group, sadly could not perform, they would appreciate support on Spotify as they came out with an album.

Beyond All Reason (BAR) opened the show with Romina Sapozhnikov taking lead on a rendition of Clean Bandit’s “Tears” ft. Louis Johnson. BAR is an all-female group that boasts a 3rd place title at the 2017 ICCA Midwest competition. Their performance kickstarted the theme for the night: jaw-dropping performances.

Following BAR was the astonishing Astha A Cappella singers who recently received 2nd place at Gathe Raho, The University of Iowa’s Annual South Asian A’Cappella Competition. Astha A Cappella began their set with a three-song mash-up. Dallis Johnson, Jahnvi Modi and Rithika Somasundaram lead the group in “Heathens” by TwentyOne Pilots, “God is a Woman” by Ariana Grande, and “Endaromahanubhavulu.” From their stage presence to their harmonies, Astha A Cappella left the crowd in awe.

Promptly after Astha’s performance, and after some Six Eight commentary, Decadence took the stage. The group ended their set with Katy Perry’s “Rise” by front singers Maya Abrahamian and Brynn Bachman. The pair worked beautifully alongside each other, and their group, giving a passion-filled, goosebump-leaving performance. Six Eight A Cappella’s Aaron Frazee closed the night with “Who Do You Love” by Marianas Trench. The group’s joy to be on stage, and their fun-filled performance, left the audience desiring more from the group.

Overall, each group’s differences made every performance wonderful; go support SLU’s A Cappella groups if you have the chance!
