Man About Campus

defaultuser January 26, 2007
There's a man on campus who has served Saint Louis University since 1992. They call him the oracle. He breathed new life into the Student Government Association protocol and refined debate practices. He introduced the student activity fee and instituted dry rush for fraternities.

Snap to Attention

Toward the end of the Student Government Association meeting Wednesday evening, representatives gathered to discuss a spot funding request from KSLU, Saint Louis University's student-run radio station. KSLU requested $9,499.16 in spot funds. It received just $2,117.

Pressing Issues

Extra! Extra! Read all about it! Every day of the week for six weeks, Saint Louis University students will get free copies of the New York Times, USA TODAY and The St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Starting next Monday, Jan. 22, 2007, we will be able to pick up these distinguished packets of print news at eight locations on University territory.

Back to Business

Apparently, Saint Louis University is moving up in the world. Our academic standing is decent. We still tout our standing as one of the top five Catholic schools in the nation (even if we aren't "controlled by a religious creed"). We regularly flaunt our 750,000 cumulative service hours in press releases and as a selling point to potential freshmen.

A Fresh Start

New Year's resolutions are serious. They test your mental and physical endurance. They reveal your innermost fears and desires. And, when used correctly, they provide yet another chance to suffocate those hedonistic habits you love to hate. That being said, here are some New Year's resolutions that will vex you, impress you and make your life a little bit better.

Making History

defaultuser December 7, 2006
Well, the semester is nearly over. Soon, students will camp out the library and Busch Student Center well past the witching hour, studying for finals, and we will board planes, trains and automobiles and head toward home. But before you settle into the hectic monotony of the holiday season, let's take a moment to remember five history-making events you witnessed during the fall of 2006.

House and Home

Editorial Board November 30, 2006
As the members of the Saint Louis University community, we must stick up for our housing interests. We must explicitly state what we expect. We must identify how we want to live at SLU and then make it happen. That being said, we've complied a short list of improvements we'd like to see on campus.

What We Share

Diana L. Benanti November 30, 2006
On Nov. 20, 2006, approximately 40 students met with the provost, the vice president for student development, the assistant vice president for student development, the director of student life and the director of campus ministry to discuss the Oct. 9 Busch Student Center confrontation between the "unnamed" professor and Rainbow Alliance members.

Striving for Justice

defaultuser November 16, 2006
On Oct. 9, 2006, an "unnamed" professor harassed Rainbow Alliance students in the Busch Student Center. Don't let this seep into oblivion. Don't just let it go. When a distasteful public display of ignorance jeopardizes the confidence and security of Saint Louis University students, it is your duty to know about it and our duty to report to you.

Student Stipends: In Good Faith

Dear Messrs. Weixlmann, Baworowsky and Lyons, We, the Editorial Board of The University News, thank you for your prompt response to a letter by one Mr. J. Andrew Ivers published in last week's issue. Rainbow Alliance Attacked: Danger Zone

UNews Staff November 9, 2006
A hate crime occurred in the Busch Student Center one month ago, and nobody did a thing about until this week. On Oct. 9, 2006, an unnamed University professor berated four Rainbow Alliance members manning a table in the BSC. He purportedly assaulted the students, shouting that God did not approve of their lifestyles.

If the Price is Right…

UNews Staff November 9, 2006
Saint Louis University is willing to sell its Jesuit identity-if the price is right. To help finance our $80 million arena, SLU received $8 million in public funds from the St. Louis Board of Aldermen. We got the money from a fund dedicated to redeveloping Grand Center, St.
