Baer Responds to Endorsements

defaultuser March 2, 2007
To the Editor: In response to your SGA endorsement article, your personal attacks upon my character were unprofessional. It does not reflect well upon your journalistic integrity. I would be interested to know who my critics are so I could talk to them one-on-one; however I have only you to address.

Sophomore Critiques “The University News”

defaultuser March 2, 2007
To the Editor: Let me start off by pointing out that I am a regular reader who appreciates your hard work and dedication. In Volume 86, Number 21 of The University News, whose headline read "Election Season Draws to Close," however, I noticed a peculiar climax to a growing debacle.

CSA Questions School Closing Policy

Commuter Student Association February 16, 2007
To the Editor: The Commuter Student Association would like to address the administration of Saint Louis University and the university community as a whole regarding the school closing policy for snow and inclement weather. After doing some research, to the best of our knowledge, the last time the University was closed for an official snow day was during the blizzard of 1983.

Student Investigates DeMatt Pool

Natasha Carter February 16, 2007
To the Editor: A pool in DeMatt?! What?! All along, there was a pool right under the noses of DeMatt residents. A pool for their convenience was something residents didn't know they could take advantage of. An interview with the Director of Housing and Residence Life, Argyle Wade, was conducted to investigate this mystery.

In response

Patrick Ishmael and Gene Diamo February 16, 2007
Last week the UNews published a letter entitled "Student Clarifies Pro-Choice Stance" written by Jenna Wells. The inaccuracies found therein should be corrected. Wells incorrectly portrays the Pro-Life movement's views on prevention. The crux of the Pro-Life argument is that life, when conceived, should be protected because it is a person, and there is a diversity of opinions as to how unwanted conceptions can be averted.

Students for Life March on Washington

Colleen Marriott February 2, 2007
To the Editor: Two weekends ago, Students for Life took a record-breaking group of 100 students to Washington DC to participate in the 34th annual March for Life. The March occurs ever year around the anniversary of the landmark Roe V. Wade case to show our lawmakers and fellow American citizens that there is a large demand for the respect of all human life from fertilization to natural death.

Rabbi Addresses Pro-Palestine Activists

Rabbi Mark L. Shook February 2, 2007
To the Editor: The Saint Louis University Solidarity with Palestine group has, unintentionally I am sure, given Israel and its supporters an unfair advantage. Mark Chmiel, Ph.D., in his commentary Jan. 26, 2007 ("Palestine & Israel: Discussion-Politic, Popular or Right"), calls on the University community to "break out of the SLU bubble to become more aware of one of the more dramatic public issues of our time: how to bring justice and peace to Palestine and Israel.

Third Baptist Church Tutoring Resumes

Carolyn Friskel January 19, 2007
To the Editor: Time flies: It seems like just yesterday I arrived at Marchetti East, eager to unpack my belongings and dive into another school year. Flash forward: Suddenly, here we are in the first week of spring semester. Now is a good time to ask, "What makes college memorable?" Is it those late-night chats with the roommate? The hours spent studying? Or, could it be those awesome weekends spent at the local watering hole? College life offers countless options to occupy your valuable time.

WRC Tracks Workers’ Rights

Joe Piehl January 19, 2007
To the Editor: Last September, Student Government Assocition President Evan Krauss formed a commission to discuss the Workers' Rights Consortium (WRC). As the chair of this commission, I am proud to say that we have found information addressing many questions that, in the past, have been unanswered.
