Alumna Comments on Soderberg Firing

Emily Willis April 20, 2007
To the Editor: Historically, SLU has never handled PR/Communications appropriately. This is currently being exemplified as the administration hides behind a written statement, refusing to respond to questions regarding the Soderberg firing. I am embarrassed to hold a degree in communications from an institution that so clearly lacks any understanding of it.

St. Louis Resident Comments on Soderberg

Mike Kurtz April 20, 2007
To the Editor: Once again, Father Biondi has brought shame and humiliation to the University. Once again, he has failed to communicate a major decision effectively to the University stakeholders, the community, the students, the faculty and the staff. Once again, he has micromanaged to the detriment of the organization.

The Success of Failure

Aubrey Krekler April 20, 2007
I am not a biology or pre-med major, but my fascination with the medical field does not end with the horror I feel when I hear the words "chemistry," "physics" or "formula." Beyond that, I am fascinated by the knowledge and ability of human bodies and brains.

Tragedy in Modern Media

Andrew Emmerich April 20, 2007
When discussing the influence of the various media organizations on the typical American adolescent, and indeed the general population, it is difficult to know quite where to begin. Does one start with the evolution of the 24/7/365 news media that is now available to the majority of the American population? Or, perhaps, one could start with the pandering talking heads of what we, as citizens of a democracy, deem appropriate or informational.

A Modest, Greek Proposal

ROB GARTLAND April 20, 2007
Greek life has been a part of SLU since the dawn of Midtown time. During the renovation of Simon Recreation Center this year, the bones of several prominent Greeks popped up as workers were digging to lay the foundation of the new weight and exercise room.

Freshman Supports Blue Crew Pres Hopeful

Jim Prebil March 30, 2007
To the Editor: I am writing in response to the letter written by current Blue Crew President Diane Blaskiewicz and her response to the article written by Pat McShane a week earlier. I believe that Ms. Blaskiewicz took Mr. McShane's article in a specifically negative way and missed the finer points of what was said within it.

Wash. U. Grad Student Calls for Volunteers

Megan Lerner March 30, 2007
To the Editor: My name is Megan Lerner and I am a graduate student at Washington University's George Warren Brown School of Social Work. I am writing on behalf of Kids' Place, a non-for profit organization that helps provide after school services to 40 children from kindergarten through eighth grade from the Delmar-Harvard Elementary School in University City.

Pax Christi’s War Strategy

Mary Becker John Carroll Kat March 30, 2007
As members of Pax Christi, we would like to respond to the several commentaries in last week's The University News regarding our beliefs about the best way to resolve the Iraq War, and our motivations for holding a non-violent, non-partisan memorial on campus, March 20th.

Life In A Box

R.H. Popli March 30, 2007
Take a moment to consider where you live on or off campus. Some of you will attribute new friends, great experiences and a general acquaintance with St. Louis to your particular residences. Conversely, some of you will look at your current sanctuaries with repugnance because they are too small, too remote or just aren't a good fit for one reason or another.

Why Die?

defaultuser March 30, 2007
Saint Louis University Pax Christi facilitated and organized the die-in held on campus March 20, but not all who participated were Pax Christi members, nor do they all subscribe to the views held by Pax Christi International. As was intended by organizers, students could die-in for a variety of personal reasons.

“Political” Humor & Public Good

Marshall Johnson March 30, 2007
Freedom of speech is a beautiful thing, but only if used intelligently. Ann Coulter is an excellent example of not using it intelligently. I just watched a YouTube clip (God love the Internet) of her saying she has "nothing to say" about possible Democratic presidential nominee John Edwards, because she would "have to go to rehab for using the word 'faggot.

The Truth About Political Scandals

Shawn McCarthy March 30, 2007
The Democratic Party and their minions in the mainstream media are constantly talking about scandals and immoral behavior. Their scandal detection is so sensitive, that they often find scandals that are not even real. They employ selective moral outrage, convenient double-standards and deception to win political points and deceive the public.
