The DeSmet Statue

Edward J. Brantmeier Ph. D. January 19, 2007
As I stood observing the wintry scene before me, snow whipping about me, I decided that winter is quite beautiful. It's splendid and exceptional; a blessing from the Almighty, truly glorious. I also decided that I should have been born in Maui. Between power outages, one can live a life in quiet denial that winter exists.

Third Baptist Church Tutoring Resumes

Carolyn Friskel January 19, 2007
To the Editor: Time flies: It seems like just yesterday I arrived at Marchetti East, eager to unpack my belongings and dive into another school year. Flash forward: Suddenly, here we are in the first week of spring semester. Now is a good time to ask, "What makes college memorable?" Is it those late-night chats with the roommate? The hours spent studying? Or, could it be those awesome weekends spent at the local watering hole? College life offers countless options to occupy your valuable time.

To the Editor: Last September, Student Government Assocition President Evan Krauss formed a commission to discuss the Workers' Rights Consortium (WRC). As the chair of this commission, I am proud to say that we have found information addressing many questions that, in the past, have been unanswered.

Who Killed the Electric Car?

Jessica Flier December 7, 2006
Imagine a world where people don't have to budget around gas prices, where the environment is not affected daily by harmful smog output from fossil fuel emissions, and where nations no longer need an excuse to go to war for oil. Surely we can imagine that world transpiring sometime in the future.

To the editor, The Upper-Class Scholarship Selection Committee has selected five extremely qualified candidates to receive $1,000 each for the upcoming semester. Making History

Well, the semester is nearly over. Soon, students will camp out the library and Busch Student Center well past the witching hour, studying for finals, and we will board planes, trains and automobiles and head toward home. But before you settle into the hectic monotony of the holiday season, let's take a moment to remember five history-making events you witnessed during the fall of 2006.

Back to Business

Apparently, Saint Louis University is moving up in the world. Our academic standing is decent. We still tout our standing as one of the top five Catholic schools in the nation (even if we aren't "controlled by a religious creed"). We regularly flaunt our 750,000 cumulative service hours in press releases and as a selling point to potential freshmen.

And, when used correctly, they provide yet another chance to suffocate those hedonistic habits you love to hate. That being said, here are some New Year's resolutions that will vex you, impress you and make your life a little bit better.

Hope for the Holidays

Andrew Emmerich December 7, 2006
When I woke up this morning, I felt the same as I have felt for the past month: tired. There is a trend to my mornings, and it is that I wake up, and merely want to go back to bed. I am beyond burnt out, I am now on auto-pilot, and I'm fairly confident that my plane is heading for a mountainside.
