The commencement exercises for the St. Louis University Class of 2000 will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 20, at the Kiel Center.
August A. Busch III, chairman of the board and president of Anheuser-Busch Cos. Inc., will speak at the ceremony. Busch has received numerous awards for his corporate citizenship from various groups including the National Urban League, the United States Olympic Committee and the National Conference of Christians and Jews.
“The Busch family has shown exemplary leadership to our community for more than a century,” said University President Lawrence Biondi, S.J. “August Busch has consistently supported the University and the St. Louis community. It is an honor for St. Louis University, and the class of the 2000, that he joins us in welcoming a new generation of leaders.”
The University will award Busch an honorary doctor of laws degree at the commencement.
Honorary doctor of humanities degrees will be awarded to Mary Bruemmer and the Most Reverend Wilton D. Gregory, S.L.D. Bruemmer has been a full-time volunteer at the University for 40 years, and Gregory has served as Bishop of Belleville, Ill. since 1994.
Both Sam and Marilyn Fox will receive honorary doctor of public service degrees for their impressive involvement in the St. Louis community.
Pre-commencement ceremonies will take place on Thursday and Friday, May 19 and 20.
On Thursday: School of Allied Health at 3 p.m. in the College Church; School of Public Service at 4 p.m. in the St. Louis Room of the Busch Memorial Center; School of Social Service at 7 p.m. in Simon Recreation Center.
On Friday: College of Arts and Sciences at 11 a.m. at the Scottish Rite; School of Nursing at 1:30 p.m. in the College Church; School of Public Health at 3:30 p.m. in the College Church; School of Business and Administration at 5:30 p.m. at the Scottish Rite; Parks College at 6 p.m. in Simon Recreation Center; School of Professional Studies at 7 p.m. in the atrium of the law school.
