The Residence Hall Association will be holding elections on Wednesday, April 4, for not only its executive board, but also the executive boards of each hall council.
Polling stations, located in each residence hall and one of the Marchetti towers, will be open from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
On the ballot for the RHA executive board is Mary Elizabeth Curtice for president, Sean Waggoner for vice president, Sabine Koebel for secretary and Moira O’Donovan for national communications coordinator.
No one sought nomination for the office of treasurer.
All candidates are running uncontested and formal nominations are closed.
However, students may be elected by a write-in campaign if they meet the qualifications for office.
According to the current RHA treasurer, Jean Samson, the president and vice president must have attended three-fourths of all RHA general assembly meetings between the beginning of the current academic year and the time of their nomination.
Other officers must have attended two-thirds of the general assembly or hall council meetings, or a combination of the two since the start of the academic year.
Curtice, a freshman and current RHA vice president, says that her main goal is to complete the projects that RHA has already started.
“I’d really like to build upon the successes of the current executive board and keep things going like they’ve started,” she said.
According to Curtice, RHA has accomplished many things this year, such as the bringing the USA Today Campus Readership Program to the residence halls, revising the housing priority system to a simpler form and throwing “Spring Fling,” the first all-residence hall social event.
Some of RHA’s current projects are reworking their self-sufficient funding system, revising the constitution so that the number of RHA representatives allotted to each hall will be proportional to that hall’s population.
Another project entails implementing a program where students would not only be able to rent microfridges through RHA, but also linen sets and pre-cut carpet to fit the dorm rooms.
Waggoner, also a freshman, agreed that RHA is moving in the right direction.
“I would like to see an increase in attendance at the meetings and students’ participation, but we really do have a solid foundation to build on,” Waggoner said.
