It is hard to categorize Biggies, located at 3332 Watson Road, as just a sports bar because they offer something for everyone. Even if the game on the tube fails to arouse your interest, the tasty food should.
A wonderful way to start off the dinner is with the onion rings ($4.95)-huge slices of sweet onions lightly breaded and fried. The tender onions seem to melt in your mouth and the rings, while not overly greasy or over-cooked stay firm and do not crumble.
Biggies serves a selection of salads in a variety of sizes. The favorite in this category is the Biggies salad ($5.95). Mixed greens along with onions, tomatoes, salami, black olives, croutons and provel cheese make the salad a smorgasbord of goodies. The only thing that you might need to do is ask for some extra cheese because once in a while they skimp on the provel. The flavorsome, creamy-Italian house dressing makes the salad even more delicious.
The steak sandwich ($8.95) contains a tender cooked-to-order steak on top of garlic cheese bread. By serving the steak on garlic cheese bread, devouring what would be just an average sandwich becomes a mouth-worthy event. The sandwich comes with homemade slaw, but it can be substituted for fries for an additional charge.
For a bar and grill, Biggies serves a mean pasta con broccoli ($7.95). The first time dining on this delicious dish makes one wonder if an Italian grandma was back in the kitchen.
The tender broccoli along with a garlic-filled mixture of red and white sauces seemed a picture of perfection straight out of Naples. The second time I was not so lucky. The sauces were flat and needed a truckload of garlic to add any flavor. What dish you get depends on who’s doing the cooking. Lets hope it’s the grandma.
Biggies serves one of the bigger hamburgers ($5.30) in St. Louis, and in this case, size does matter. Nobody wants a small hamburger, and if they do they go to McDonalds. When you go to Biggies, you crave a humongous portion of ground beef cooked to perfection and maybe even served with a slab of cheese on top.
One of the best parts of Biggies is that the bar section is isolated from the rest of the restaurant ensuring that patrons have less noise and smoke to deal with than in most places.
TVs are located throughout the bar and restaurant, which provides everyone an opportunity to watch the exciting games.
The service at Biggies is always fast and friendly. The servers make sure that the rounds keep coming and that the food comes out of the kitchen hot. Biggies gets crowded, but the tables turn over quickly without a long wait.
