There’s a witch hunt on Saint Louis University’s campus this weekend. No, it’s not anyone’s twisted fundraising event. It’s the opening of The Crucible-Saint Louis University Theatre’s final production from this year’s Season of Classics.
Arthur Miller wrote the play in 1953 in response to the McCarthy hearings after actors, writers and others were accused of being subversive and subsequently blacklisted by big Hollywood studios.
The play is the story of 1692 Salem, Mass. witch trials and draws many comparisons to the ` similar parallels in a dramatic setting.
The ensemble cast includes SLU Theatre staples-versatile actors like Lee Emery as John Proctor and Heather Wood as Mary Warren. Both actors shined earlier this year in the impressive Glass Menagerie.
The Crucible opens tomorrow and runs through next weekend. Showtimes are Fridays and Saturdays April 19,20,26 and 27 at 8 p.m. and Sunday April 21 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $5 for students and $8 for the general public. For reservations call (314) 977-3327.
