Spring Fever, the annual carnival event hosted by the Student Activities Board, came to the east side of campus last Friday, April 26.
President of SAB Erin Dunn said that she thought the event went very well. “Considering it was a new location and the weather was not so great, it was good,” Dunn said.
The new vendor also rated well with Dunn. “Soulard Alehouse was good,” she said.
Dunn also noted that the turnout was not that different from past years. “We had about the same number of people attending as the past two years-even with the weather,” she said.
Mike Rozier, Student Government Association president-elect, enjoyed himself and even made an appearance in the Sigma Kappa sorority dunk tank. Rozier said that he enjoyed being in the dunk tank, even though his lips turned purple and he shook from the cold water. “It was fun-I only hope next year that it’s warmer,” he said.
And then the one thing that had received the most comments during the weeks prior to the event took the stage: the band.
“People weren’t excited about the Gin Blossoms at first,” Dunn said. “But then when they heard the band and realized that they knew all of their songs, they liked them.”
The band also impressed Senior Abby Kozeliski. “Gin Blossoms rocked,” she said. “I really enjoyed the show.”
“The new location was wonderful,” Dunn said. “We got a lot of compliments on the location, and the set-up was so much more convenient.”
However, Kozeliski disagreed. “I think that Spring Fever should move back to its original location down by the Village,” she said. “I just think that more people would come out for it, and it’s more convenient for most of the campus.”
Linda Wardhammer, associate director of the Office of Student Life, said that she had fun.
However, the weather was not the only cause for alarm-literally.
At 9 p.m. Marchetti East Tower Apartment students were forced outside into the festival whether they wanted to be there or not, when a fire alarm sounded. It was later determined that there was no fire, and the alarm was the result of a student prank.
