Best Doctors is a Web site created by Pulitzer-prize winner Greg Smith. According to the Web site, Best Doctors is completely independent and its mission is to link consumers to the medical knowledge they need in order to make the best healthcare choices for themselves and their loved ones.
The site states that they do not accept fees from doctors or hospitals in exchange for a listing on the databases.
Each year Best Doctors surveys thousands of leading specialists worldwide and ask them what doctors they themselves would go to for treatment in their specialty. More than one million individual evaluations were processed.
According to the Web site, only 30,000 doctors in the United States, which is about 4 percent of all U.S. doctors, are selected as outstanding doctors.
St. Louis Magazine compiles this information and features an annual “best doctors” issue.
More than 70 SLUCare physicians in a wide range of specialties, including dermatology, neurology and geriatrics, made this list.
