Help is on the way for all you burgeoning sophisticates who
spent your formative years reared on burger joints and Boone’s
Farm.
Located within the posh confines of the renovated Coronado
ballroom, Nadoz Bakery and Caf offers a much-needed touch
of class to Midtown.
Despite its recent arrival, Nadoz already boasts an impressive
lunch time menu of soups, salads and Panini sandwiches. Every item
is made from scratch, and the soup menu changes daily.
The quality and variety of each selection distinguishes Nadoz
from the familiar rotation of soups at campus mainstay Au Bon Pain,
and more than compensates for their inability to take Flex
dollars.
While sit-down diners are more than welcome, Nadoz specializes
in grab-and-go meals for the student on the run. Pastries and
croissants are offered for breakfast, and most of their salads are
presented in take-out packaging.
For caffeine addicts, Nadoz offers a selection of locally-owned
Kaldi’s Coffee, and Republic of Tea products are available for
those seeking a distinguished beverage without the buzz.
A tempting array of cakes and torts can be ordered either whole
or by the slice.
To the adventuresome college student, Nadoz’s main attraction
has to be its wine bar. Generations of Billiken boozehounds have
frolicked up and down Laclede Street during the weekends, but the
loud and rowdy bars are hardly ideal to conclude an expensive
evening at the Fox Theatre. Nadoz features a stocked wine bar for
these occasions and even offers valet parking for that extra touch
sure to impress a date.
The coffee-shop atmosphere is ideal under the intimacy of dimmed
lights.
Obviously, fine wine is not the beverage of choice for the
frugal student, but avoiding a dry-cleaning bill from a spilled
drink at Humphrey’s should appeal to the miser in everyone.
For those intimidated by the high-society culture of the wine
connoisseur, Nadoz owner Kathy Becker is considering wine tasting
classes for college students (legal ones, of course) seeking to
broaden their alcohol expertise beyond cases of budget beer.
Becker also has big plans for the ritzy ballroom adjacent to her
restaurant–her team of trained chefs pulls double duty as caterers
for the ballroom’s events. She is particularly keen on applying her
20 years of managing skills to ensure that student organizations,
which gather in the ballroom, have memorable events.
Her staff can prepare anything from a simple buffet to an
extravagant sit-down dinner, and the ballroom’s proximity to campus
eliminates the usual transportation hassles that accompany
formals.
While still in its infancy, Nadoz offers a conveniently-located,
wholesome meal to students willing to venture past the “SLU bubble”
and quick dining for students on their way back in.
If future months bring prosperity, Nadoz Caf and its
accompanying ballroom will provide a marvelous opportunity for
students looking to dress snazzy and play grown-up for an
evening.
At last, you can literally wine and dine a date in Midtown.
