On the whole, students are pleased with their Griesedieck dining
experience, according to Hula Meyerhoff, director of Griesedieck
Dining Center.
Meyerhoff said that she and other dining center staff venture
into the cafeteria on a regular basis “to ask students what they
want or don’t want.”
“We now have chicken fingers once a week,” said Meyerhoff of the
response to student feedback, most of which is received
face-to-face rather than through the comment card system. “We asked
them what they were willing to give up to have this, and instead of
having hamburgers for lunch once a week, we have chicken
fingers.”
Other new additions to the Griesedieck menu include sub
sandwiches and chicken caesar wraps.
Nutrition facts are posted for everything the cafeteria serves,
enabling students to gauge the nutrition factor of what they are
about to eat.
“We post all nutrition facts so students can eat healthier,”
Meyerhoff said. “We are always watching out for nutrition.”
The Origins line, Meyerhoff said, is oriented toward those with
nutritious eating habits.
“We have nutritious food … but we also have french fries and
hamburgers every day,” Meyerhoff said.
Griesedieck provides students with healthy choices and nutrition
information, but it is the students’ prerogative to take advantage
of this.
Meyerhoff and staff are currently working on new recipes to
include in the Griesedieck repertoire. “Students bring in recipes
for us,” Meyerhoff said of student recommendations. “We have many
vegetarians who request nutritious meals.”
Griesedieck Dining Center has received no formal complaints so
far.
