Last night, the director of public safety sent an e-mail to the Saint Louis University community that said a University employee was a victim of an e-mail scam.
Public Safety Director Jack A. Titone said that the fraudulent e-mail was sent to the employee’s SLU account yesterday. It seemed to be an official Bank of America e-mail. The e-mail asked for personal information, and the employee, believing it to be legitimate, complied.
A few hours later, the employee received a call from MasterCard and discovered that unauthorized credit card activity had taken place.
Titone said that the fraudulent e-mail was addressed to other SLU employees as well.
He said that no bank or credit card company would ever ask for personal information via e-mail.
