Two of the biggest names in rap are hitting Chaifetz Arena this month, one of them for the last time in 12 months, give or take time served for good behavior.
Grammy-nominated rap artist T.I. will perform at the concert mere weeks before he begins a yearlong jail sentence for firearms possession charges.
“It’s a pretty big deal because it’s his last show before he goes to prison,” said Bob Kehm, director of marketing for the Chaifetz Arena. “It’s a great opportunity for SLU students.”
T.I. has already served 1,000 hours of community service as a part of his sentence.
Before this year’s release of his album, Paper Trail, T.I. was best known for his collaborations with Justin Timberlake on the song “My Love” and with Destiny’s Child on the song “Soldier.”
Performing alongside T.I. will be Ludacris, the three-time Grammy winner who has sold more than 15 million albums in the United States during the course of his career. He is also making a name for himself as an actor, appearing in films like Crash and Hustle & Flow.
Rapper Shorty Da Kid is also scheduled to perform at the event.
The concert takes place on Thursday, Feb. 19 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets have been on sale since Jan. 17, but there are still seats available. Prices range from $47 to $127. Visit www.thechaifetzarena.com to order tickets.
