UPDATE (Feb. 24 at 4:05 p.m.): SGA Adviser David Young said numbers weren’t released for the election because, “there were some elections that weren’t hotly contested.” Apparently, the margin of victory was wide enough that Young and Burns decided that exact numbers were not necessary.
Young said that he and Burns were still deciding whether or not the numbers would be released.
“Glitches” in the coding of the voting have rendered the previously announced results for the financial vice president and the vice president of student affairs of the Association of Parks College Students invalid.
Young said that the results, which placed Kathryn Mulligan and Jessica Rozycki in office, respectively, will be rescinded and a special election will be held to fill those spots at an undisclosed time.
The Next Step trounced The Remedy, winning in almost every competitive race when the results were announced Monday night by Election Commissioner Mackenzie Burns.
The Executive Board was swept by The Next Step’s candidates.
The Executive Board-elect of the 2009-2010 Student Government Association is listed below.
President Michael Harriss
Executive Vice President Amanda Mason
Financial Vice President Robert Moehle
Academic Vice President Thomas Chlebeck
Administrative Vice President Andrew Miller
Burns read from a list of winning candidates without specifying the number of votes that each candidate received. This breaks with previous precedent, as the vote tallies have typically been announced simultaneously with the results.
“This year things were done a bit differently,” Burns said, referring to the omission of official numbers. “[SGA Adviser] David Young said, ‘We’re not doing numbers.’ … There was no rhyme or reason to it.”
Burns, who called Monday’s results “official projections,” said the numbers would probably be released after they have been authenticated. Undisclosed “glitches” with the voting process on Banner are still being worked out, Burns said.
Harriss’ ticket, which relocated its viewing party to Reinert Hall after being kicked out of Salsarita’s at closing time, was jubilant, exchanging hugs and high-fives. Members of the Executive Board-elect attributed their sweep to team unity and practical platform points.
Brian Hackworth Jr.’s ticket, which watched the results in the lobby of Marguerite Hall, applauded the winning ticket after listening in silence. Hackworth gave an impromptu concession speech, thanking his running mates for their hard work and support.
