Year after year, the anticipation runs high, starting in January and building until the fateful May day when summer vacation officially begins. For Disney’s “Phineas and Ferb,” that first day of the summer is the best day of the year. Until the next day, of course.
Taking the Chaifetz Arena stage for the “Phineas and Ferb: The Best Live Tour Ever” production, the show promises more than traditional Disney humor, according to Adrian Baez, who will be playing Phineas.
“It’s very fast and colorful. There’s never a dull moment,” Baez said. “There’s a lot of humor that adults will understand that kids won’t.”
Baez, who is embarking on his seventh year as a Disney Live actor, notes an N*Sync-inspired dance number and a Matrix-like fight scene as just a few of the over-their-head moments that could best be appreciated by the 18-and-up crowd.
“Phineas and Ferb,” which first aired on the Disney Channel in 2007, follows stepbrothers Phineas Flynn and Ferb Fletcher as they try to make every day of their summer vacation better than the last.
Phineas and Ferb’s pet platypus, Perry, is also a secret agent who inconspicuously battles Dr. Doofenshmirtz while the boys execute their own plans.
As each day brings a new adventure, their sister Candace attempts to halt the fun only to be thwarted in a docile, Disney-like fashion every time.
“They always create this exciting, extraordinary thing,” Baez said. “But Candace always just wants to bust her brothers.”
The adventures of the television series range from time travel to beach parties, each episode tackling a new day.
The live show will feature Phineas and Ferb on their very best day of summer vacation, discovering an audience in their backyard and, naturally, putting on a play for them.
Known for its musical numbers, 14 songs from the original series will be brought to the stage, including a Bollywood number and a 1980s hip-hop number called “Squirrel in My Pants.”
During the 15 minutes before the show starts, audience members can take part in “Phineas and Ferb” trivia and learn dances from the actors.
The show will take the stage Feb. 9-10, with two shows on Saturday and one on Sunday. Tickets are $18-$50 and can be purchased online.
