24-hour library desire questionable

Like a new laptop or Blackberry, you desperately want it when you see it on the shelf. But when you glimpse at the price tag and feel the sticker shock, you reevaluate that desire.

On Tuesday, Nov. 4, Proposition M failed on the St. Louis County ballot by just 5 percentage points. Though it's surprising that the initiative failed by so little, resulting cuts in MetroLink service will prove just how integral public transit is in St. Louis.

Beauty out of ‘Ugliness Ahead’

You've seen the fliers around campus: Yellow and black caution signs emblazoned with "Warning: Ugliness Ahead!" These signs advertise the startling exhibit "Them: Images of Separation," which hangs in the Busch Student Center until Nov. 26. The display includes a series of everyday objects from the past 100-or-so years, from postcards to T-shirts to comic strips and board games.

During the presidential primaries, the editorial board of The University News endorsed Sen. Barack Obama and Sen. John McCain to represent their respective parties in the 2008 presidential election. These two candidates were chosen because they presented the greatest degrees of poise, integrity and sound reasoning for progressive policies among their fellow contenders.

Vote “no” on Amendment 1

Many students will experience a great deal of stress as they study (or put off studying) for these academic halfway markers. Before they hole up in some secluded corner, plug their skulls with iPod headphones and start devouring those textbooks, however, it's important to plan to relieve that stress in a constructive way.
