On Tuesday, April 4 the SAB elected new officers for next year. Ryan Murphy, president, Aaron Dunn, internal vice president, and other respective officers were elected. This group will face many challenges for next year. The main one is working around a budget that will be half of this year’s. The other challenge is working with other campus organizations in order to keep campus activities thriving.
“We plan on working with more organizations next year,” Murphy said when asked about the new budget dilemma.
“I have spoken with Brian Suda of KSLU, and we are planing a few things for next year,” Murphy added.
One of these possible events is the two groups’ attempt to create the world’s largest cookie. “We hope to get in the Guinness Book of World Records,” Murphy said. Murphy is also hoping to bring the crocodile hunter, Steve Irwin, to campus.
As far as the comedians are concerned, SAB probably won’t be able to sponsor as many big name stars, such as Jim Brewer and Kevin Meany. The quantity of comedians may go down; however, SAB will still be able to show movies around campus, such as High Fidelity and Tuesday’s showing of American Psycho.
Thus far the organization has planned six moves per semester for students. The movies left for this semester are Frequency, Lite and summer blockbuster American Pie, which will be shown outdoors.
Also coming up is Spring Fever, a carnival which will be held on Laclede on May 4. The party will encompass the area on Laclede between Vandeventer and Laclede St. Bar and Grill. The large empty lot behind the village will also be used for the celebration. Several campus organizations will have booths set up in the area. Various rides will be placed throughout the area.
This carnival may be one of the last big SAB activities that the school sees for a while. “We may have to cut the square dance for next year,” Murphy said.
Despite this, Murphy and Suda are talking about holding a party for students in the BMC with other organizations from around campus.
