Saint Louis University has added a new face to its pubic relations team; and if you’ve been a regular St. Louis television news watcher, the face should be familiar.
Former KSDK-TV Channel 5 weekend anchorman Jeff Fowler joined the Public Relations department on Monday, Dec. 4.
Fowler comes to the SLU media-relations group after spending 20 years as a broadcast journalist, which included an 11-year stint with KSDK-TV Channel 5 in St. Louis. He has spent the last year at MAX Broadcasting Network, an Internet firm.
Fowler will head media relations for all non-health sciences units, including the College of Arts and Sciences, Engineering and Aviation, Business, Social Service, Professional Studies, Law, Philosophy and Letters, and the Graduate School. He will also serve as a University spokesman.
While moving from television and Internet to a public-relations position may take a slight adjustment, Fowler is excited about the change. “Some days [in the television news business] are great, but after 20 years I was tired of chasing homicides. I was ready for a change.”
While Fowler is eager to begin at his new position, he realizes there will be a change from his old work habits. “Every time you start at a new job, it’s a little overwhelming,” said Fowler. “I just need to remember that I don’t have to get everything accomplished today. The work is much more stable.”
Fowler came to SLU because of its atmosphere and relaxed pace. “The campus is great, and all the people I’ve met so far are so nice,” he said. “It’s not nearly as frantic as my previous jobs.”
The SLU public-relations team is delighted to have Fowler working with them.
“I am confident that Jeff’s extensive media expertise will enhance Saint Louis University’s visibility and reputation both locally and nationally,” said Bob Woodruff, associate vice president for Public Relations.
“In addition to his outstanding professional background, Jeff’s personal attributes make him the ideal candidate for sharing the University’s mission,” he added.
