Falling for Head Over Heels

Monica Potter, most recently known for her touching role in Patch Adams, and Freddie Prinze Jr., star in the hilarious slapstick comedy, Head Over Heals.

In this new film, Potter plays the role of Amanda Pierce, an art restorer specializing in renaissance paintings. She lives contently until a sharp blow of reality crashes into the idealistic bubble she calls life. To her disbelief, she stumbles upon her boyfriend in bed with a model.

As a woman befuddled by the opposite sex, she moves into a glamorous apartment in mid-town Manhattan, ironically, with four (you guessed it) super models. But, when she innocently peaks out of her own window in her new apartment, she finds herself intrigued by an adorable, successful man.

Fashion designer, Jim Winston (Prinze) is the new Mr. Perfect. Unfortunately, his fatal flaw appears when she spies his involvement in a cold-blooded murder of an up-and-coming super model. Potter’s acting talent glistens when she portrays her lovesick character Amanda. Due to her attraction to Mr. Perfect, every time she meets him she nearly falls on her face with weak knees and a fluttering heart. She certainly nails the title of the film and believably falls head over heals on several occasions.

Additionally, time and time again, Jim’s Great Dane, Hamlet, attacks Amanda leaving her out of breath and clamoring on the floor. Additionally, she naturally glows from love and adoration for Jim Winston. Her beauty shines, surely not overshadowed by a cast full of supermodels.

In comparison, Freddie Prinze Jr. likewise executes his character well. As usual, he plays a role not unlike most of his others, such as Zach Skyler in the teen-flick, She’s All That. He plays the part of an ideal boyfriend with a grin, which matches the attitude that any Mr. Perfect should have. The humor in the film stands high on its list of accomplishments especially when the girls are forced to proceed with the investigation of Mr. Perfect.

After Amanda witnesses the murder that Winston committed, the gang of uncoordinated models, including regular ol’ Amanda secretly follow Winston in search of clues to solve the murder. Unfortunately, the models end up hiding in the bathroom during two memorable instances in the film.

They make for a jaw- dropping glimpse into the Winston’s bathroom life, which makes them second-guess how perfect he actually is. Likewise, any viewer with a sense of humor will end up laughing in hysterics when the models unfortunately become closely acquainted with the trials of an exploding toilet.

Indeed, the plot must be taken into consideration. The director probably did not achieve his goals. The film’s direction seems to lead to a romantic comedy, yet it takes an unexpected twist when Winston’s turns out to have a mysterious identity.

Suddenly, the film makes an unsuccessful attempt to evolve into an action film spiced with mystery. Consequently, some may consider this addition a bit saucy and unnecessary. Nonetheless, it misses the thriller antics of a horror film which is definitely an intelligent decision.

Most importantly for others who desire a mix of each type of film, this is the one. It contains a good combination of humor and romance, besides that of action, drama and mystery. A-
