Students can now nominate phenomenal teachers for all of their scholastic efforts.
The Student Government Association presents the first Faculty Excellence Awards.
“It’s a great way to show some appreciation for the faculty at SLU,” said Becky Shelby, academic vice president of SGA.
Shelby, along with Matt Love, Parks College senator, have been working on the awards since last school year.
These awards will highlight what is good about the faculty. It will also show students who the great teachers are, according to Love.
To nominate a teacher, students can go online to the SGA website at http://sga.slu.edu/academics/. Students can go to the site, click on “Faculty Excellence Awards,” and make a case for why his or her professor should be honored with this award.
Recipients of the award will be honored with a banquet on Monday, April 23. There may be as many as 50 members of the SLU faculty given this award.
Shelby highly encourages students to nominate their favorite teacher.
There are two steps for a teacher to be nominated. First, a student must nominate the member of the faculty online. The second step will involve the department members of the nominated faculty member to provide letters with more information about what the person may do outside of the classroom.
The application process is going well, according to Love. They have already received nearly 30 nominations with little advertising. SGA plans to send students a mass e-mail encouraging them to nominate teachers.
Students with questions can call the SGA office at 977-2810 or e-mail [email protected].
