Looking around Saint Louis University, one will see the signs of spring: students lying out on the grass, flowers blooming and the numerous fountains going-all except one, that is.
The clocktower and stair fountains are experiencing operating problems this spring.
“The fountain was experiencing problems toward the end of last season,” said Mike G’Sell, director of Building Services.
The Department of Facilities Services realized that it had a bigger issue on its hands earlier this season when they tested the fountains. The stair fountain was not working at all, and the clocktower fountain was not working properly.
The system was checked and it was determined that there were leaks in the pipes. After locating the leaks, Facilities Services found two breaks in the pipe that controls the circulation from the fountain to the pump.
Facilities Services is in the process of fixing the problem with the fountains. “It all depends on the weather, but the fountains should be up and working within the next couple of weeks,” said G’Sell.
