Saint Louis University students will enjoy the musical elements of The Urge on April 27 in a private concert, better known as Spring Fever.
The Urge, along with Nadine and Javier Mendoza, will be gracing the stage next Friday night in front of a SLU-only audience.
“We’ve got great acts that the students wanted to see for years,” said Chris Grabau, Student Activities Board advisor.
All of the bands are originally from the St. Louis area and are coming to SLU for a private engagement.
The concert serves as the pinnacle to the four-day stretch of fun brought to students by SAB.
The week begins with a Great Issues Series event on Tuesday, April 24, with the St. Louis Speaker Series: Political Panel. The event, at 7:30 p.m. in Cook Hall, features a debate between the College Republicans and the Young Democrats.
On Wednesday, April 25, comedian Jimmy Fallon will perform in the Saint Louis Room at 9:30 p.m. Doors open for the event at 8:30 p.m. Tickets for the show are available in the Student Life office.
Fallon, born in Brooklyn and raised in upstate New York, moved to Los Angeles at the age of 21. Now at the age of 26, he has completed two years on the television program “Saturday Night Live.”
The plans continue into Thursday night, April 26, for the outdoor presentation of the movie Road Trip. Students eager to watch the film should be in the Quad at 9 p.m.
On Friday, April 27, Spring Fever will be responsible for the transformation of Laclede Avenue into a festival of booths, rides and games.
Student organizations are sponsoring booths with games and food. Also, the Laclede Street Bar & Grill Beer Garden will serve beer, margaritas and soda.
Representatives from Postnet.com and FM 101.1 The River radio station will be attending the event. “This year we know more of what people want,” Grabau said.
The carnival rides include the Heart Flip, Loop-o-Plane, Merry Mixer, Hustler and the Gyroscope. The wide selection of rides came because of their popularity among students. SAB wanted to get more types of rides that student liked from the previous years, said Cab Gutting, SAB co-chair of Spring Fever.
“Basically, we just wanted everything to be bigger and better than last year,” Gutting said.
The event would not be complete without a fireworks finale. According to Gutting, the fireworks were such a big success last year that they are back for a repeat performance.
Grabau said this four-day stretch should serve as a nice way to end the semester.
