After months of planning, Friday night’s Spring Fever was hailed as a success by students and faculty.
With approximately 5,000 to 6,000 attendees, every aspect of the event had a great turnout, according to Student Activities Board advisor Chris Grabau. This number is easily twice the crowd that attended Spring Fever last year.
“Everything went better than planned,” Grabau raved. “SAB was so on top of things-I think that’s why students enjoyed themselves so much.”
The rides, specially selected according to what students were interested in last year, went well. “There were steady lines for all the rides, even when it rained briefly,” according to SAB president-elect Erin Dunn.
While the student booths were as successful as last year, that is one area that Grabau would like to see improved in the future. The more student organizations that want to get involved the better, according to Grabau.
As was the trend for the entire event, the musical portion of the evening went “better than planned,” Grabau said. “There was a huge influx of people at 8 o’clock, which was something that SAB anticipated.”
Some attendees, like Dunn, had never heard The Urge prior to Friday night. “From what I saw and heard, the band was great,” she said.
“It was a SLU event, but there were definitely some people from the outside public coming,” accords to Grabau. “As long as we make the students a priority, I don’t think it’s a problem.”
Grabau said that having people outside the SLU community attend Spring Fever compliments the event. “It’s a nice thing to have the public there.”
The fireworks were also a success. “Last year, the fireworks were okay. But this year, they were outstanding,” Grabau said.
“We’ve been complimented by so many students,” Dunn said. “Students think it’s the best event they’ve seen this year. The event went off without any problems.”
When asked how much an event of this nature cost, Grabau simply said that SAB received financial assistance.
“We got a lot of help from KSLU, SGA spot funding, Griesedieck Hall Council, the President’s Office, and more,” Grabau said. “In order to offset total cost, we had a lot of contributions from outside student organizations, which resulted in more students getting involved.”
Grabau reiterated how much work SAB members put into the event, especially Spring Fever co-chairs Barbara Montgomery and Cab Cutting.
