The Margaret McNamara Memorial Fund (MMMF) Scholarship is a new scholarship for international women at Saint Louis University.
The grant supports the education of women from developing countries who are committed to improving the lives of other women and children in their home countries.
The scholarship will award five grants of about $11,000 for the 2002-2003 academic year. The World Bank administers this one-year, non-renewable award.
The MMMF is a nation-wide program providing financial assistance to women from developing countries during their studies in the United States.
An international student wishing to apply for this award must be studying a degree program in an accredited U.S. school and live in the United States.
All applicants must have a record of helping women or children in her home country. Applicants must plan to return to their home countries, demonstrate financial need and be at least 25 years old.
Advisors at the International Center said they were unsure of how many students have actually applied although seven students picked up applications.
The scholarship requires that applicants submit the interest application to receive the actual application.
At least one nursing student has applied for the scholarship, said Frances Hsieh, foreign student advisor.
The International Center advises that applicants review their application with an advisor before submission.
Applications forms are available until Jan. 31, 2002.
The deadline for all applications is Feb. 1, 2002.
International women students may pick up an application or simply inquire about the grants and the eligibility requirements at the International Center in DuBourg Hall room 150.
