Students displayed their talents and expressed themselves at “Celebrating a Legacy of Love” this past Tuesday evening in the Billiken Club. The Black Student Alliance sponsored the talent show in conjunction with Black History Month.
In keeping with the Valentine’s Day theme the lights were turned down low, heart shape candles and soft music were playing, giving way to an intimate setting. Students
mingled with each other while enjoying fondue.
“The intimate setting allowed an opportunity for students to express their many talents,” said junior De-Andrea Blaylock.
Many students expressed themselves through poetry of their feeling towards love and life.
Chris Clark, an Arts & Science freshman shared his improvisational talents. Clark expanded on this by talking about how there are many great leaders in Black History who have made a contribution to society.
Other students expressed themselves with their musical talents. The University’s gospel choir, Melody of Praise, entertained the audience with a short performance.
The different way people can express their uniqueness shows the talent here on campus is amazing said Shrimichaels Barfield, a junior in Allied Health.
“I hope that the people who came out tonight will continue to support BSA events because they are for the entire student body,” said senior Annette Jackson.
The next event is this evening when keynote speaker Michael Eric Dyson, professor of religious studies at DePaul University, will be speaking on campus in the Saint Louis Room of the Busch Memorial Center at 7 p.m.
Black Student Alliance, Great Issues Committee and the Multicultural Formations Committee are sponsoring this Black History Month event.
