Infinity: Pain

Look at a picture of this shirtless, scowling rapper, and you think, “I bet this guy has a song called `In Tha Ghetto.'” Sure enough, it’s the sixth track.

Indeed, another rapper who promises to offer boundless teachings of street survival has fallen into our lap.

This time, he’s christened Infinity Tha Ghetto Child and bears a tattoo reading “West Side,” with one word on each chiseled pectoral. Not sure why though, him being from South Carolina and all.

Two verses into the leadoff title track, and the Guinness World Record for using the n word in a four minute span seems sure to go to Infinity.

As the track closes, he sounds like a possible candidate to hold the record for “b**** n****,” too. With such lyrical wizardry, we feel pain, not Pain.

We listen on though, eager to hear that “real s***” that Infinity certainly knows well. “Throw Ya Fingaz Up” is the dance floor-ready instructional anthem that urges all to, er, throw their fingers up.

Funny, for a guy who prides himself on educating us about the dangers of drug abuse and the poor condition of America’s ghettos, he’s sure focused on getting everyone out on the tiles.

Since “he owns the m********** streets,” we can appreciate Infinity’s attempt to make a positive out of a negative. But rather than a barking album, it just seems like his experiences could have been communicated in another way.

Perhaps hooking up with a local D.A.R.E. officer and speaking to fifth graders would have better suited our Ghetto Child.

Because judging from the contradictory assault we could endure only once, he certainly wasn’t put on this earth to rap.

To be fair, Infinity has taught us to throw our fingers up.

Well, maybe just the middle one directed solely at him. Grade: F (or maybe we should give it a G)
