Gin Blossoms are coming to Saint Louis University’s Spring Fever, scheduled on April 26.
Gin Blossoms, a rock band popular in the early ’90s, will be the main act of the Student Activities Board annual Spring Fever. Gin Blossoms topped the charts with the pop hits “Hey Jealousy” and “‘Til I Hear it From You.”
Erin Dunn, president of SAB, booked the band.
“It’s one of their first concerts together as a band in more than five years,” she said. “A lot of people know their music and really like them.”
Opening for the Gin Blossoms will be two local St. Louis bands. Nadine, an American pop rock band, and Earl, which plays folksy music, will also perform. Earl was recently voted one of Riverfront Times’ 10 Best Local Bands.
DJ Nitro and DJ Ronnie Louvre will also rock the stage. KSLU radio station is responsible for bringing Nadine, DJ Nitro and DJ Ronnie Louvre to campus. KSLU is co-sponsoring the two stages by helping paying for production.
“I’m excited to be bringing Nadine back, and I’m happy to see that Earl, another great St. Louis band, will also be on the bill,” said Chris Schaeffer, events director of KSLU.
But some of the acts will be a
little closer to the SLU community.
Stoked Mobius, an acoustic band composed of SLU students, will make an encore performance to their Battle of the Bands performance.
Coming in first place at the Battle, Stoked Mobius won the honor of opening for Gin Blossoms.
“Stoked Mobius has worked hard and made themselves known on campus,” Schaeffer said. “They deserve the privilege of playing at Spring Fever.”
Bare Naked Statues, an a capella group composed of several SLU guys, will also perform.
“We’ve got really great acts,” said Chris Grabau, program coordinator of Student Life. “The quality of music will be consistent throughout the entire event.”
In addition to the music, Spring Fever is comprised of other activities for students.
At its new location on Laclede Avenue in front of Grand Forest and Marchetti Towers apartments, Spring Fever will play host to the typical array of games, rides, food and fireworks.
As far as games, there will be a game show, Dash for Cash, in which students can win a monetary prize. Student organizations will be hosting booths with food and games.
Sigma Kappa sorority will be hosting a dunk tank for the second year in a row.
Student organization presidents and other notable students will be some of the faces in the tank.
This year’s carnival rides will be the Columbus, the Slide, the Loop-o-Plane, a Funhouse, the Hustler and the Swinger.
There will also be a rock-climbing wall and a sumo-wrestling display.
Soulard Ale House will host the beer tent and be the main food vendor. For the finale, the University’s largest ever fireworks show aims to dazzle the audience.
