The end of the school year marks the end of a term for some and the end of an academic career for others. Seniors have only a few more weeks to enjoy their days of real world freedom before they walk across the stage at commencement and into the unknown.
In preparation for the big graduation day, seniors are given a week off following exams to stay on campus and enjoy everything from unlimited Ethernet access to on-campus dining one last time.
To help seniors occupy their free time during the week, Student Life, Campus Ministry, the Student Government Association and the Residence Hall Association are all helping to sponsor Senior Week.
This year’s senior week will be from Sunday, May 12 to Thursday, May 16.
Senior Disorientation Week 2002 offers seniors activities that range from barbeques and baseball games to winery tours to karaoke night at Humphrey’s.
The week’s activities begin on Sunday, May 12 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Tower Grove Park with a barbeque. Seniors can enjoy all the hamburgers, hotdogs and drinks they can handle.
This year features the first Senior Week kickball tournament. Teams of eight to 10 seniors compete against their fellow students to win Cardinal’s tickets.
Monday, May 13 offers a winery tour and trip to Harrah’s Casino. Tickets can be purchased to take a tour of Mount Pleasant Winery in Augusta, Mo. Buses leave at 11 a.m. and return around 3 p.m. The shuttles to Harrah’s Casino leave at 7 p.m. and return to campus around 11 p.m.
The Annual Senior Pub Crawl is on Tuesday, May 14. Shuttles will pick up students in front of Laclede Street Bar & Grill at 7:30 p.m., and take seniors to several bars around the St. Louis area and return to Humphrey’s around midnight.
Wednesday, May 15 offers a picnic at SLU RUBA, the pools in front of the Simon Recreation Center, beginning at 1 p.m. and lasting until the food is gone.
Music will be provided by KSLU, as seniors can relax or play sand volleyball under the shade of the palm trees.
Wednesday night is the Cardinals versus Cubs game at Busch Stadium; buses will leave around 6:15 p.m. for the stadium. The Young Alumni Association is providing T-shirts to the seniors in attendance.
Thursday night as the parents are arriving and seniors are looking for a place to go in the evening, they can make their way to Humphrey’s for the family and friends karaoke night at Humphrey’s.
The bar is open to all seniors and visitors of age for one of the last parties of the year at this SLU institution. Humphrey’s will have drink specials all night.
Tickets for every event can be purchased now at Student Life in BMC 300.
All of Monday’s events are sold out, but there are still tickets available for the other activities. The barbeque on Sunday is $5, and the pub crawl on Tuesday night in $7. The picnic on Wednesday is still open for $1 and there are tickets still available for the Cardinal’s game at $17. Karaoke night at Humphrey’s is free.
Humphrey’s is also giving seniors free soft drinks all Disorientation Week, along with sponsoring Karaoke night. The 32oz. senior week cups can be purchased, as well, for $1.

However, not all of the seniors are as pumped about Senior Week.
Lauren Smith, a senior physical therapy student, said that the events have been poorly communicated to the students.
“Besides a random PT e-mail I received, the first thing I heard was from an email from SGA today (Wednesday),” Smith said. “I didn’t even know that we had to buy tickets; tickets for what?”
“I don’t know if I’m the exception to the rule because I haven’t heard anything, but I feel really uninformed,” Smith continued.
“Senior Week seems anti-climactic to me,” Smith said. “It’s the actual graduation that I’m really excited about.”
