Residents across campus probably got a lot more studying done Tuesday than they would have intended, since the cable was not working.
Charter Communications, the cable provider for Saint Louis University, has been updating their service in the City of St. Louis during the past few weeks.
On Tuesday, the majority of the upgrade included SLU’s service, disrupting the service for most of the day.
Argyle Wade, director of Housing, explained that Charter had not informed him of the upgrade or outages prior to work being done.
During the outages, only University-broadcast channels, including the Billiken Blockbuster Cinema, KSLU Channel 12, College Television Network and the international channel, were available without an antenna.
Wade said that Charter has now informed him that service will continue to be disrupted for the next two weeks, due to upgrades in the St. Louis area. Most of those disruptions should cease by 5 p.m. each day, he said.
Normally when service is disrupted, students should contact the Department of Housing and Residence Life at 977-2811, but Wade noted that students should realize that for the next few weeks minor disruptions should be expected.
Wade added that he has been working with Charter to determine if the service to SLU should include or remove certain channels to better serve the student population. A timeline for such changes, or the specifics of those changes, has not yet been set.
