Candidates running for the executive board of the Student Government Association were made known to the public today, with the election date set for Feb. 24.
The Ticket to Tomorrow: Turning Vision into Reality has junior Nick Sarcone running for president, junior Maria Rodriguez for executive vice president, sophomore Justin Butler for financial vice president, junior Deanna Durret for academic vice president and junior Sarah Keller for administrative vice president.
Headlining the platform are the team’s main goals, which include improving school spirit with more affordable sportswear at the Saint Louis University Barnes & Noble bookstore, increased campus safety with the installment of several Web cams in parking lots and better communication between the students and SGA by having concern boxes outside every residence hall that would include a full senate contact list.
Sarcone also said that the Simon Recreation Center expansion, an issue he has been adamant about for several years, tops the ticket’s list of priorities.
Student Leaders United (SLU) will run against The Ticket to Tomorrow. Senior Justin Lampe heads the ticket as the presidential candidate, along with juniors Anne Lampe for executive vice president, Paul Fitzgibbons for financial vice president and sophomore Eric Immel for administrative vice president.
SLU hopes to make valuable improvements to campus life, including the expansion of Simon Rec. Other plans consist of pursuing a nighttime parking policy, continuing work to standardize aspects of the core curriculum and increasing upperclassmen scholarship money.
On Feb. 10 at midnight, candidates may begin advertising their campaigns by posting in academic buildings, residence halls and libraries. At 8 p.m. on that day, a presidential debate will be held in the Griesedieck lobby. All students are welcome and encouraged to attend.
Election Day is Feb. 24. Election Commissioner Luke Young urges all students to participate and make their voices heard.
