Saint Louis University junior Amy King, of Brookfield, Wis.,
died Saturday of bacterial meningitis. She was a student studying
at the Madrid campus.
King was a student in the College of Arts & Sciences and was
majoring in communication. This was her first semester studying in
Spain. King had been hospitalized since last Wednesday.
In an e-mail, University President Lawrence Biondi, S.J.,
informed the SLU community of the loss and confirmed that every
measure has been taken to keep others from becoming sick.
“I want everyone to know that the University has taken every
precaution to try to ensure that no other students, faculty or
staff at our Madrid campus become infected with bacterial
meningitis,” Biondi said in the e-mail.
There have been no other reports of illness, and counseling is
available to those on the Madrid and St. Louis campuses.
Services will be held at the Becker Ritter Funeral Home in
Brookfield, Wis., on Friday, from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. The funeral will
follow, Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at St. John Vianney. A memorial
service will be held Friday, April 11 at 4 p.m. in St. Francis
Xavier College Church. The entire SLU community is welcome to
attend.
