On the heels of the Pasta House Co. opening in November, nation-wide sandwich shop chain Jimmy John’s will be opening a new eatery right next to campus.
According to Area Manager Natalie Toy, the new Jimmy John’s will open in two to three weeks, depending on construction. The location is 3674 Forest Park Parkway, a few buildings down from Reinert Hall.
Toy said the new franchise came from student demand.
“About a year and a half ago, SLU students chose Jimmy John’s in a survey on what restaurants they wanted,” Toy said. She said the delay was in finding a place to put the restaurant.
Jimmy John’s specializes in cold sandwiches, but also sells chips, cookies and pickles. Some sandwiches include the Pepe, which has ham, provolone, tomato, lettuce and mayo on French bread, and the Country Club, which has turkey breast, ham, tomato, lettuce and mayo on either seven-grain wheat or French bread. Prices for these sandwiches range from $2.50 to $4.50.
Toy said the best part of the restaurant is its delivery service. Delivery is available every day until 4 a.m., and there is no minimum purchase. However, there is a 40-cent charge on each sandwich item. Dine-in is also available, but has limited seating.
Toy said she would like to hire as many students as possible to both work in the restaurant and do deliveries.”We’re all young people, and we have a good environment,” Toy said.
