Spring Fever heats up campus this Friday, April 25. Activities will begin at noon and end around 11 p.m. The event is free and open to the University community as well as the public. Headlining the concert will be hip-hop artists Fabolous, Tabib Kweli and Tone Loc.
In addition to the annual Student Activities Board carnival, the MTV Campus Invasion Tour will make an appearance at Saint Louis University this year. MTV will play host to the Interactive Expo and will bring the main stage concert.
The Gonzaga parking lot behind Des Peres and Fusz halls will transform into a carnival ground. The MTV Village will be set up at Laclede and Spring avenues.
Carnival rides will include the slide, the salt ‘n’ pepper shaker, a fun house, swings and a ferris wheel. Inflatable activities include the moon walk, bungee run, the human dart and jousting.
Student organizations will feature carnival games and booths. Alpha Kappa Psi, the business fraternity, will sponsor a quarter toss. Students For Life will be selling funnel cakes again this year. Sigma Kappa will play host to the dunk booth for the third year in a row.
To satisfy one’s appetite and thirst, a wide variety of vendors will be available this year. Humphrey’s will be providing beer, burgers and hot dogs. The Pasta House Co. will provide soft drinks and appetizer such as toasted ravioli. In addition, Vito’s might provide pizza.
The Campus Invasion Expo includes Rock On (live out your rock ‘n’ roll fantasies), 2 Turntables & a Microphone, Booty and the Band, MTV.com Presents “The Leak,” and Experience MTV. DJs will be playing, and patrons can, enter the MC battle, be a Total Request Live host for the day, meet the band and listen to music.
At 5 p.m. the MTV interactive activities will end, signaling the beginning of the concerts. Taking the stage are DJ Skribble and hip-hop artists Fabolous, Talib Kweli and Tone Loc.
Spring Fever will conclude with a fireworks finale. Roof-top parking is closed in Laclede Garage for the event because the display will take place from the upper level of the garage.
“The location is centralized, and we expect a good turnout, weather permitting,” Tillman said.
Friday’s forecast calls for rain, and in such an instance all activities will be moved to Simon Recreation Center. The Simon Rec can hold approximately 3,000 people, roughly one-third of the estimated attendance at last year’s Spring Fever. In that case, the event will be on a first-come first-served basis.
MTV Campus Invasion will move inside along with student booths, games and a few of the inflatable activities.
