The 12th annual Leadership and Service Awards banquet was held this past Thursday, April 24, in the basement of St. Francis Xavier College Church.
The banquet honored outstanding student leaders and organizations for their contributions to Saint Louis University and the surrounding community.
The organizations that were recognized throughout the year with the monthly students organization awards were: October– Alpha Delta Phi; November–SLU Students for Life; January–Student Alumni Association; February–The Billiken Dance Team; March–Sigma Phi Epsilon.
Student Leaders recognized throughout the year were: October– Megan Kinney and Nick Sarcone; November–Cab Gutting; January– Kavita Rajah; February–Stacey Grimm; March–Michelle Putman;
The Leadership Awards honor SLU students who have exhibited exceptional leadership in contributions to the success of their organization.
Nina Garrown, president of SLU’s chapter of the American Marketing Association, received the Academic and Professional Society Leadership award.
Rachael Lynn, president of Order of Omega, received the Greek Leadership Award.
The receipt of the Media Leadership Award is Lisa Phifer, editor of the Archive yearbook.
The Programming or Governing Board Leadership Award went to Kristina Hoff, Resident Hall Council president.
Melissa Curran, assistant residence coordinator for the apartments, received the Residence Hall Leadership Award.
Peter Brokish, for the second year in a row received the Special Interest Group Leadership Awards for his dedication to Blue Crew.
SGA Outstanding Organization Awards were given to the Service Leadership Certificate Program and the African Student Association.
The recipient of the Omicron Delta Kappa Student Leader Award, given to a first year student who has become involved in campus or community activities, is Thiago Takahashi.
Angie Cooper, advisor of REACH Women’s Leadership Series received the Avis E. Meyer Outstanding Advisor Award.
The Bill Nordmann Community service Award was presented to the Health Resource Center. The center gives medical student the opportunity to volunteer in various areas dedicating their time and skills to the needy.
Emily Weiss, is a member of UNA who cannot sit by quietly in the face of injustice.
Weiss was the recipient of the Mev Puleo Social Justice Award for her initiative in bringing an awareness of social justice to SLU and the community.
The recipient of the Fr. Paul Reinert Service Award was described as model of service for bringing joy to all she does and having an attitude that is downright contagious. The award was presented to Allison Lind.
Chad Kreikemeier received the Fr. Mario Ross Leadership and Service Award.
During Kreikemeier’s four years at SLU he has be actively involved with a positive attitude,
Kathy Humphrey, vice president for Student Development said the banquet was a wonderful occasion to say thank you to [the student leaders] for everything they have done.
She said that believes that students will continue to grow in the future and offered congratulations to those students for planting seeds in SLU’s garden.
