The Contemporary Art Museum of St. Louis opened a 27,000
square-foot facility in the heart of St. Louis’ creative and
cultural district on Saturday, Sept. 20.
The Museum is at 3750 Washington Blvd. located in Grand Center,
next to the Pulitzer Foundation for the Arts.
A noncollecting museum, the CAM focuses its efforts on being the
leading institution for contemporary art exhibitions in an
innovative environment with community partnerships, educational
programs and outreach projects.
The facility will create excitement for the neighborhood and
hopes to provide another venue for people to visit and help the
local economy.
"Our ongoing aim is to provide culturally enriching
programs devoted to contemporary art, enhancing the already lively
art community in St. Louis," said director Paul Ha. "We
intend to draw national and international attention to St. Louis
through programming and outreach."
The exhibits change depending on the show. The museum opened
with "A Fiction of Authenticity: Contemporary Africa
Abroad." The exhibit features prominent contemporary African
and African Diaspora artists who work and live in the United States
and Europe.
The exhibit focuses on "an important topic and it was
important to inaugurate the space with an international exhibit and
not with the greatest hits in contemporary arts as many other
museums are doing," Ha said.
"We believe that along with the other cultural institutions
within the Grand Central district, in particular our neighbor, the
Pulitzer Foundation for the Arts, St. Louis becomes a destination
for those individuals interested in contemporary art and
architecture," Ha said.
The Contemporary Art Museum of St. Louis Hours: 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Admission: $5 for adults and $3 for senior citizens and Museum admission is free on Thursdays. |
