“Yes, because I’ve seen DPS patrol the buildings at very late
hours in the night. Also, I feel safe because I know that I can get
a ride with them all the time.”
-Maria Jorgenson, Senior
“I feel very safe on campus. I have noticed that as it gets
later in the evening I see more and more DPS officers. I also feel
that having the option of getting an escort is very
comforting.”
-Brittney Short, Sophomore
“I don’t feel that safe because I hear too many unfortunate
stories that happen on campus and in the surrounding area.”
-Vy-Thao Nguyen, Senior
“I feel relatively safe here. Everywhere I go I see DPS
officers; I know a few of them and they let me know what is
happening around campus and the surrounding area. On campus there
is nothing to worry about, but it gets a bit questionable when you
go off campus. I know one of the guys who got robbed in front of
Coronado.”
-Tyler Robertson, Sophomore
“I feel safe within the campus because SLU is like a community
in the city. There are always people walking around. But I don’t
feel safe on Laclede because I’ve been approached before.”
-Bryan Trautwein, Senior
“I feel very safe on campus because [DPS does] a good job of
keeping things lit and there are always people around. But some
parts that make me uncomfortable are the outskirt areas like
Laclede and walking to Reinert as well.”
-Joe Malburg, Junior
“I feel safe at SLU because there are a lot of lights and it’s a
bit fenced in.”
-Patti O’Brien, Senior
“I feel pretty safe on campus but it can get a little sketchy on
Grand. I live in Reinert so the walk is sometimes scary, with the
bus stops and people loitering around.”
-Claudia Kiersznowski, Sophomore
“I feel pretty safe on campus-I don’t get bothered at all. We’ve
got enough DPS people to watch over us. But when I leave campus, I
get worried about getting pick pocketed.”
-Carlos Cabezas, Senior
