There is a new phenomenon in the dating scene, and it’s exploded
over the past year, but only specifically for women. Is dating a
younger man the new “in” thing? Historically, men tend to date
younger women, and it’s obvious why.

Younger women idolize the older male for multiple reasons. So,
why is it that recently women have sought out younger men? And
correspondingly, why do men seek out younger women? I did some
investigating.

I remember the feeling like it was yesterday: arriving on campus
and being the “new freshman girl.” But, to my pleasant surprise,
all of the older guys on campus seemed to extend a hand to me.

Let me take that back; they extended an arm and a leg for me.
Roll out the new carpet boys: it’s freshman move-in day.

Being on the other side of move- in this year, I gained a new
understanding. It really is the day all fraternity boys wait
for.

Freshmen are new to campus, ready to party and, lucky for you,
totally unaware of all the hearts you’ve broken. This year, I was
able to overhear the comments made by my guy friends and I thought
to myself, “This is what I was in awe of last year?”

But I’ll admit it. There is something extremely appealing about
the older boy. More facial hair? More life experience? The
appearance of having life in order?

I’m not sure which one it is, but there is something that
allures the na�ve freshman girl. But you soon learn that
more facial hair and a greater alcohol tolerance means nothing in
the long run.

On the flip side, younger guys are more attracted to older
girls, well, older beautiful girls.

Maybe it’s the sex appeal of a more experienced woman. Maybe
it’s the combination of beauty and talent, or maybe it’s just that
they are beautiful. I don’t think even the guys know what it is,
exactly, that allures them.

To be a guy who seeks out an older woman, you must fit a very
specific persona. You must be a) extremely attractive, b) extremely
confident, and c) very assertive in order to be successful.

I say this because older girls know what they want, and what
they don’t, and they are at a point in their lives where they
aren’t willing to waste their time.

The older girl has been to the parties, had the one-night stand,
had her heart broken and survived it all. So if you’re going to
attempt to get her, you’re going to need a good game plan.

You get to a point in your life where age doesn’t matter
anymore. It’s ultimately about compatibility. You can’t slap a
label on someone because of age, and if you do you’re going to be
missing out on a world of opportunities.

Don’t brush someone off because they are younger, or older for
that matter. If you’re really going to be that judgmental you
probably shouldn’t be looking for a relationship anyway.
