The only outpost within walking distance for the Saint Louis University smoker will be out of commission for the next few weeks.
The Shell station (right), located at 35 S. Grand Blvd. between Reinert Hall and the Laclede parking garage, will be closed for renovation for the next five to six weeks, according to Director of Public Safety Jack Titone.
The only known detail of the project is the elimination of the car wash and the expansion of the convenience store to 3102 square feet. According to Titone, there is speculation that the inside will be turned into a coffeehouse-style atmosphere.
Vice President of Facilities Management and Civic Affairs Kathleen Brady described what she heard about the re-vamping as turning the station into a "Quick Trip" style convenience store.
Spirit Energy, LLC., who owns the Shell station, was unavailable for comment. For now, many questions about future amenities remain unanswered.
